At The North Star Academy, our mission is to make a meaningful difference by assisting individuals and the families who support them.  We are committed to individuals reaching fulfilled and independent lives through the acquisition and retention of skills in an enriched environment

The North Star Academy

At the North Star Academy (NSA), our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the quality of life of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and the families that support them.  This is accomplished by creating enriched learning environments for children and support systems for strengthening and maintaining the capacity of their families.

The North Star Academy offers intensive on-site services for individuals from the age of 5 to 22 with intellectual or developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder.

The North Star Academy utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to provide best-practice, empirically-based treatment. There are three major aspects to North Star Academy's approach: 1. Clinical Programming 2. Applied Research Program
3. Training and Practicum Site

Thank you dear friends at Capitol Federal for your generosity, care and kindness! The Capitol Federal charity committee representing 24 Branches (Eastern Region) selected our North Star Academy to be the recipient of their wonderful giving initiative "Dessert wars". This morning Michael Maxwell (Charity Committee Member at the Shawnee Crossing Location) and Liz Hocscheid (Charity Committee Member at the Nall Hills Location) presented Jamie Price and Cheryl DeShon with a check for $1,178. The donation will provide much needed support for children served at North Star Academy. Previously, Capitol Federal has also supported the North Star Academy by building our beautiful sensory garden.

Do you shop online? Do you want to support
CLO’s North Star Academy (at no cost to you!) at the same time?
We are excited to announce that we are a certified cause on Goodshop

Whenever you plan to shop online, just head to the Goodshop / Goodsearch website, pick “Community Living Opportunities North Star Academy” as your cause, and then use the Goodsearch search engine to navigate to any of the thousands of participating retailers. North Star Academy will receive a small donation simply for your search as well as a percentage of the amount of any money you spend at the participating retailer.

Goodsearch works with both local companies in the Kansas City area (e.g., sports teams, restaurants, spas) and national companies (e.g., Starbucks, Target, Walmart).
As if that isn’t enough of a reason in itself to shop through Goodshop, they also offer thousands of discounts and coupons for your purchases!
This is all at no cost or obligation to you. All it takes is a few minutes to set up your cause initially and then remembering to search through Goodsearch instead of your old preferred search engine.
We thank you in advance for your support of CLO’s North Star Academy, and we look forward to being able to build our program with any donations received through this endeavor. Please give us a call, email, or Facebook message if you need any help using Goodshop / Goodsearch.

We are pleased to announce that North Star Academy now is an in-network provider of applied behavior analysis (ABA) services with TRICARE, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (New Directions Behavioral Health, LLC), United Behavioral Health, and Cigna Behavioral Health, Inc.

If you have healthcare plans with any of these companies, you may qualify for coverage of ABA services at North Star Academy! Call us for more information!  913-341-9316, ext. 61

Thank you for making the 2nd ANNUAL NORTH STAR ACADEMY
LIFESPAN Conference a huge success!

CLO's Northstar Academy would like to thank everybody who came to the Conference and made it a huge success. We thank our distinguished speakers for their inspiring and timely insights. We also thank our faculty partners at the University of Kansas for their wonderful response and continuing support. Big thanks to the amazing performers from "The Rents Comedy Show" and to the incredible and dedicated staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure every little detail is taken care of. Most of all we wish to thank all of the participants,  without whom, the success of the conference would not have been possible.

We all look forward to seeing all of you again soon in future exchanges and at our 2017 Conference!
