WE ARE HIRING AN Executive Director of Johnson County Montessori and North Star Academy
The Johnson County Montessori School (JCMS) is currently seeking a qualified, experienced, Executive Director to lead one of Johnson County’s oldest Montessori Schools (founded in 1965). JCMS is relocating and expanding to its new location overlooking beautiful South Park Lake Park (approximately ½ mile south from its current location). JCMS serves children aged 2.5 through Kindergarten and provides individualized lessons using proven teaching methods in a comfortable, homey environment, including a large, nature-filled playground. The Montessori tradition in early childhood education is effective because it encourages children’s natural love for learning and gives them opportunities to develop problem-solving skills to use all their lives.
The Montessori School will be on the same campus as North Star Academy, an early intensive behavioral intervention program serving six to ten preschool/kindergarten aged children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Executive Director will be responsible for administrating both programs and will collaborate closely with the Center for Applied Behavior Analysis, a University of Kansas program directed by Applied Behavioral Science Department faculty members Pamela Neidert and Claudia Dozier, that provides teaching, research, and service opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students for the benefit of NSA students. North Star Academy (NSA) is a program that provides early, intensive and evidence-based supports and inclusionary opportunities for young children with intellectual and developmental disabilities including ASD, Down syndrome, Fragile X, and mental retardation.
This position requires a positive leader who is committed to early education and positive intervention and to providing inclusionary opportunities to children with special needs. This leader must enjoy working closely with teachers; have good judgment, organizational, written and oral communication skills; must work well with parents; effectively manage a budget; and must meet all standards set by licensing.
Preferred requirements include:
- Master’s or higher degree in early childhood education or related field or 5 or more years in similar position;
- Montessori certification and experience;
- 3+ years of experience with early intervention and/or a working knowledge of early childhood programs for typically developing children and children with early childhood special education;
